Diarrhea
The opposite side of the coin from constipation, diarrhea is something that at one moment or another we experience. It is characterized by loose, watery stools. Normally, this will subside on its own. If it is chronic and has been lingering for a while (weeks to months) it may be a sign of a deeper issue.
Diarrhea itself may be a symptom of other disorders, such as IBS, IBD, food poisoning, and bacterial, viral, or parasitic infection. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), we view diarrhea as a manifestation of a pattern that is recognizable and treatable. Symptoms of diarrhea include abdominal cramps and pain, fever, blood in stool, undigested food in stool, bloating, nausea, urgency in defecation, or loss of bowel control.
Acutely, diarrhea may be caused by improper diet, excess alcohol consumption, or emotional turmoil and stress. Chronically, diarrhea may lead to dehydration and malnourishment. Accompanied by fever and severe pain, diarrhea must be treated immediately. These could be signs of infection and you need to get rid of whatever bug has made a home in your body.
Acupuncture is clinically proven to be an effective remedy for diarrhea. By balancing the body’s systems, this dis-ease is more easily fixed. TCM sees the body as a whole environment in its own right. Creating a healthy biome internally, the body can only be vibrant and exude wellness.
